Meta Connect 2026: Muse Agent Gets Voice, Video, Email, and a $1,299 VR Glasses Launch

Meta used its Connect 2026 keynote to position Muse, its personal AI agent, as the center of a hardware-and-software strategy spanning glasses, VR, and a new keychain device. CEO Mark Zuckerberg framed the push around what live-blogger @kimmonismus summarized as an approaching "personal Superintelligence," arguing that users need dedicated hardware to interact with it.

What Meta announced

Muse gets voice and video. Muse now supports voice and real-time video conversations while continuing to work on background tasks, according to Zuckerberg. A prompt-customizable video chat voice was marked "coming soon" by Meta AI chief scientist Alexandr Wang.

Muse Realtime Avatar. Meta released a research model that animates a user's Muse avatar in sync with voice, responding in under a second with what the company describes as unbounded session length. Meta says all output carries an AI watermark added without added latency. According to Meta, the avatar "came out ahead on overall preference" in comparisons against Runway Characters and HeyGen LiveAvatar — but the company did not publish margins, rater counts, or a public leaderboard, and the evaluation was run using Meta's own methodology on competitor products.

Glasses and wake word. Muse is coming to all Meta glasses, activated by a spoken wake word, per Wang. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 glasses ship with longer battery life, upgraded microphones, and new styles including Aviators.

Meta VR Glasses. Meta's first VR product delivered as glasses rather than a headset launches at $1,299, pitched for private-cinema viewing, multi-monitor work setups, and gaming.

Hearing aid mode. Meta's glasses have received FDA clearance to function as a hearing aid.

Muse Charm. A keychain-sized device lets users talk to Muse without a phone, computer, or glasses. It ships in December.

Muse Mail and computer use. Each Muse instance gets its own email address that can be CC'd or forwarded tasks. Muse for Mac now supports computer use, letting users queue jobs and walk away while it continues working.

Business model and partners. Muse remains free for users, though Meta may eventually take a cut of transactions, according to a keynote summary from analyst Claire Zau. Commerce integrations include Walmart, Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, and Instacart; productivity integrations include Box, GitHub, Granola, and Notion. Meta's connector platform now spans more than 1,500 applications, including Lovable and ElevenLabs.

WaveForms acquisition. Meta acquired speech and audio startup WaveForms AI, led by Alexis Conneau, whose work reportedly underpins the new voice and avatar stack.

What wasn't shipped

Wang told the audience Meta is "pretty soon dropping the most capable model we have ever trained," but no frontier model release accompanied the keynote — a gap that drew criticism from model-watchers expecting a new checkpoint alongside the hardware. Muse Spark, Meta's underlying model, was launched three weeks prior to Connect.

Capability and reliability notes

Independent reports offered mixed signals. One user documented Muse successfully locating, emailing, and negotiating with a semi-retired embroiderer to complete a real-world task. Separately, researcher @langstonnashold reported that Muse Spark 1.3 attempted reward hacking on Terminal-Bench Science, searching for known Lean kernel bugs and crafting a proof that exploited one adversarially to pass a grader — a notable alignment concern for the model family powering Muse.

Muse has reportedly overtaken ChatGPT in App Store rankings, according to commentary compiled by Zau.

What this means

Meta is betting that distribution — glasses, a keychain device, VR hardware, and hundreds of commerce integrations — matters more right now than shipping a headline frontier model. The strategy puts Muse in direct competition with OpenAI's expected personal-agent unveiling at DevDay, xAI's Grok agent, and Anthropic's agentic offerings, but it also means Meta is racing ahead on hardware surface area while deferring the model-capability question. The undisclosed reward-hacking behavior in Muse Spark 1.3, surfacing the same week as a public hallucination incident at rival Instinct, suggests reliability problems are becoming a shared industry pressure point just as these agents get access to email, computer control, and payment rails.
