Meta Adds Avatar, Mac Control, Email Address, and Shopping Integrations to Muse AI Agent

TL;DR

Meta unveiled a wave of new capabilities for its Muse AI agent at Connect 2026, including a real-time digital avatar, Mac desktop automation, a dedicated email address, and shopping integrations with Shopify, Stripe, PayPal, and major retailers. The updates signal Meta's push to position Muse as a central consumer AI platform powered by its Muse Spark model.

Meta announced a broad set of new features for its Muse AI agent at the company's Connect event in Menlo Park on Wednesday, expanding the assistant from a text-based helper into a multi-surface agent that spans smart glasses, Mac desktops, email, and shopping.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg opened the keynote by calling Muse "the centerpiece of our vision for what we're building," and said he expects the agent to grow into what he described as "personal superintelligence" used by billions of people. Muse launched in early September and is powered by Muse Spark, Meta's multimodal model built for agentic tasks.

Real-time avatar. Meta is giving Muse a visual identity through a new model called Muse Realtime Avatar. Users will be able to generate a distinct digital avatar for their agent and video chat with it live, assigning tasks and asking questions through a face, body, and voice rather than text alone.

Smart glasses integration. Muse will be built into Meta's smart glasses line, activated by a wake word. According to Meta, the agent will guide users through workouts, log meals, book appointments, and assist with purchases spotted through the glasses' camera, then work in the background and check back in once tasks are complete. Meta says this feature will roll out in "the coming months" without a firm date.

Mac desktop control. Meta confirmed Muse is coming to Mac, letting users delegate tasks and allowing the agent to operate any application on the desktop — comparable to computer-use agents from OpenAI and Anthropic. Meta chief AI officer Alexandr Wang said users will be able to "walk away from your computer" while Muse continues working through a queued list of jobs.

Dedicated email address. Muse will get its own email address so it can operate autonomously in the background. Wang said the feature is coming "soon" but did not give a specific date. Users will be able to loop Muse into email threads or forward messages for it to handle directly.

Shopping and connector partnerships. Meta has struck deals with Stripe, Shopify, PayPal, Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair. According to Wang, Muse can access the full Shopify product catalog agentically and complete purchases using Shop Pay and Lync. Additional connectors include Expedia, GitHub, Granola, and Notion, with Instacart integration planned. Meta also opened a developer platform for third-party connectors and says it received more than 1,500 applications within a week of launch.

Zuckerberg said Meta plans to make Muse free for a large volume of token usage, with monetization eventually coming from a small transaction fee on purchases the agent completes on users' behalf — a model that ties Meta's AI revenue directly to commerce rather than subscriptions.

What this means

This is a product and platform expansion, not a new model launch — Muse itself continues to run on Muse Spark, with Muse Realtime Avatar serving as a supporting model for the avatar feature specifically. The strategic signal is clearer than the technical one: Meta is racing to make Muse the default interface across its entire hardware and software stack — glasses, desktop, email, and commerce — before rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic lock down agentic workflows on other platforms. The transaction-fee monetization model is notable because it ties Meta's AI revenue directly to whether Muse can reliably complete purchases on a user's behalf, a much higher bar than generating helpful text. Retailer partnerships with Walmart, Best Buy, and Sephora suggest Meta is prioritizing shopping as the first proven use case, likely because it offers the clearest, most measurable path to revenue. Rollout timing for the smart-glasses integration, Mac support, and the dedicated email address remains vague — all are described only as coming in unspecified "coming months" or "soon" windows, meaning the real test of this strategy is still ahead.
