Google Gemini Live adds two new voices, removes voice descriptions in redesigned picker

Google has added two new voices to its Gemini Live conversational AI feature, according to reports from 9to5Google. The update introduces "Flare" and "Glow," which replace the previous "Nova" (Calm • Mid-range voice) and "Lyra" (Bright • Higher voice) options.

The voice selection interface has been redesigned from a carousel to a list format, now accessible through Gemini Settings > Gemini's voice. Google has removed the descriptive labels that previously accompanied each voice option.

Current voice lineup

The complete roster of Gemini voices now includes:

  • Flare (new)
  • Glow (new)
  • Ursa: Engaged • Mid-range voice
  • Vega: Bright • Higher voice
  • Pegasus: Engaged • Deeper voice
  • Dipper: Engaged • Deeper voice
  • Eclipse: Energetic • Mid-range voice
  • Capella: British Accent • Higher voice
  • Orbit: Energetic • Deeper voice
  • Orion: Bright • Deeper voice

Android widget updates

Alongside the voice changes, Google has updated the Gemini Android widget icons with its Neural Expressive design language. The new icons feature thin outlines for Microphone, Camera, Gallery, File, Video, Screenshare, and Live functions. The widget layouts themselves remain unchanged.

The update is rolling out via server-side deployment with Gemini app version 1.0.913571982. Google app version 17.26 also includes an updated Drive icon in the plus menu.

What this means

The voice refresh continues Google's iterative approach to Gemini's user experience, following last week's Neural Expressive redesign. The removal of voice descriptions suggests Google may be confident users can distinguish voices through sampling rather than text labels. The simultaneous icon refresh indicates a broader design language update across the Gemini ecosystem, though the changes remain cosmetic rather than functional improvements to the underlying voice synthesis or conversation capabilities.
