Perplexity launches 'teammates' AI agents inside Computer, exclusive to $200-a-month Max plan

Perplexity has launched "teammates," personal AI agents designed to handle ongoing work autonomously with minimal supervision. The feature is exclusive to Perplexity Max subscribers, who pay $200 a month or $2,000 a year, and is available on the web and on iOS, according to Engadget's report from Nov. 6, 2026.
How teammates work
Teammates run inside Perplexity Computer, the company's cloud-based agentic assistant that performs multi-step tasks for users. Perplexity says the new agents build on top of Computer and come with "additional capabilities for ongoing, large-scale work."
Key behaviors described:
- Role assignment: Each teammate can be given its own role or task, and all of them can work simultaneously.
- Collaboration: Teammates work together and can manage other teammates to make sure tasks get done.
- Self-expansion: They can bring in additional teammates and plan the newcomers' tasks as the workload grows.
- Background operation: Teammates work 24/7 in the background and notify the user when a decision is needed.
Interface
Every teammate gets its own entry in the sidebar of Computer. From there, users can see what each agent is currently doing and what it has already finished. Inside each teammate's thread, users can hand off more work, tell the agent to switch gears, or ask for status updates.
Availability and pricing
At launch, teammates are available only to Perplexity Max subscribers, on web and iOS. The Max plan costs $200 a month or $2,000 a year. Pricing for any other tier, and any usage limits on teammates, were not stated. No underlying model, context window, or benchmark figures were given, as this is a product launch rather than a model release.
What this means
Teammates extend Perplexity Computer from a single assistant that completes multi-step tasks into a setup where multiple persistent agents split work, supervise one another, and escalate to the user only for decisions. For users, the practical change is that work can continue in the background without a live session, with per-agent threads for oversight.
The $200-a-month Max requirement limits access to the highest-priced subscription tier. Web and iOS are the only supported platforms at launch.
