Anthropic launches Personal Finance in Claude with read-only Plaid access for US Pro, Max and Ultra users
Anthropic announced Personal Finance in Claude, a feature that connects bank and credit card accounts through Plaid with read-only access. Conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic's models. It is available only to Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US.
Anthropic has launched Personal Finance in Claude, a feature that lets users connect bank and credit card accounts through Plaid with read-only access and ask Claude questions about their spending. Anthropic announced it Thursday, according to ZDNET, which first reported the details. It is available only to Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US.
What the feature does
Users can link as many bank and credit card accounts as they choose. They can then ask Claude questions such as where they spent their money this month, or whether they can afford a vacation in six months. Claude supports follow-up questions about spending habits, trends over time and future goals. It also generates tables and charts to visualize the data.
The feature follows OpenAI's ChatGPT Finances, which launched in May, according to ZDNET. ZDNET describes the two as functionally similar.
What data Claude can see
Anthropic specified what the feature accesses. In its announcement, the company said:
"For the accounts you choose to connect (and only those), Claude sees the bank's name, each account's name, type, and last four digits, balances and credit limits, and up to two years of transactions. When you chat with Claude in the Personal Finance hub, those conversations aren't used to train our models."
The training protection applies to the Personal Finance hub, which is its own mode. If a user shares or discusses financial data with Claude outside the hub, that data is subject only to the user's standard Claude privacy settings.
Anthropic also said Personal Finance has no ads or sponsored recommendations, and that it doesn't offer credit cards, loans or savings accounts of its own.
Open questions
ZDNET reports that Anthropic has not yet responded to questions about the risk of hallucination within Personal Finance in Claude. Anthropic also has not said whether the dashboards the feature creates remain accessible, or whether users must re-request them each session.
Anthropic's positioning
Anthropic described Personal Finance as "a first step." The company said: "For life's bigger money decisions, we think people are best served by Claude working alongside the licensed professionals and regulated firms they trust." It added that it is exploring how to make that possible in Claude and wants to hear from banks, wealth managers and financial services companies that want to help shape it.
ZDNET notes that user feedback on ChatGPT Finances is mixed. One Reddit user said it was still "weaker" than Mint or Monarch in areas such as historical syncing, high-quality dashboards and generating full statement PDFs. ZDNET editor-in-chief Elyse Betters Picaro said she was "incredibly impressed" with ChatGPT Finances and uses it alongside other tools, not as a replacement for professional advice.
(Disclosure from ZDNET: its parent company, Ziff Davis, filed an April 2025 lawsuit against OpenAI alleging copyright infringement.)
What this means
The notable design choice is the boundary around the training protection. It covers conversations in the Personal Finance hub, not financial details a user pastes into a regular Claude chat, which fall under general privacy settings. Users who want the stronger protection need to work inside the hub.
Access is read-only and limited to the accounts a user selects, with a stated scope of balances, credit limits, account identifiers and up to two years of transactions. Anthropic's own framing is a starting point, with its call for banks, wealth managers and financial services firms signaling interest in more integrated planning later. The unanswered questions on hallucination and dashboard persistence matter for anyone relying on its numbers. Availability is restricted to paid US subscribers.
