Google AI Search now surfaces Reddit posts and forum discussions directly in results

Google announced updates to AI Mode and AI Overviews that directly quote Reddit posts, web forums, and social media as "Expert Advice" sources in search results. The feature includes creator names, handles, and community identifiers to help users evaluate source credibility.

The update responds to user behavior patterns where searchers append "Reddit" to queries seeking human experiences over SEO-optimized content. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman stated in 2025 that "just about anybody using Google at this point will end up on Reddit."

What's included in the update

The AI search features will now:

• Display quotes from forums and Reddit with clickable community links labeled as "Expert Advice"
• Show additional context including creator handles and community names
• Surface related topic suggestions at the end of AI responses to encourage deeper research
• Add inline links to relevant websites within AI-generated text, not just sources for the specific answer
• Highlight content from news subscriptions that support linking (for subscribers)

According to Google, if a user searches for photographing the northern lights, the AI might quote a photography forum on exposure time settings with direct links to the full discussion thread.

Pushing users toward AI features

The integration appears designed to keep users within Google's AI search experience rather than manually adding "Reddit" or navigating to traditional search results. The additional context and community labels aim to help users quickly assess whether a source is specialized enough for their needs.

The related topics feature adds suggestions like case studies and reports when searching broad topics. A query about cities expanding green spaces might surface recommended reports on successful urban initiatives alongside the primary AI summary.
