Google has acquired ProducerAI, an AI-powered music production platform, bringing the tool under its Google Labs umbrella and integrating it with a preview version of the company's Lyria 3 music generation model.

ProducerAI launched in July 2025 as a successor to Riffusion, an earlier AI music tool. The platform enables users to collaborate with AI agents to generate sounds, workshop lyrics, remix existing songs, and create new instruments based on text prompts. Originally built on its own proprietary AI model, ProducerAI will now leverage Google's Lyria 3 technology to power its music generation capabilities.

The acquisition represents Google's continued investment in AI music generation following the introduction of Lyria 3, which the company positioned as an advancement in text-to-music synthesis. By integrating ProducerAI's user-facing platform with Lyria 3, Google gains both the underlying music generation capability and an established user base that reportedly includes approval from established music producers like The Chainsmokers.

ProducerAI cofounder and CEO Seth Forsgren did not disclose terms of the acquisition. The platform will continue operating as a distinct product within Google Labs rather than being merged into existing Google music tools.

The move mirrors Google's broader strategy of acquiring specialized AI tools and integrating them with proprietary foundation models. Google Labs serves as the company's incubation space for experimental products, suggesting ProducerAI may remain in limited availability during integration with Lyria 3.

What this means

Google is consolidating its music generation capabilities by combining a proven user interface and artist endorsements with its latest generative model. This positions Google to compete more directly with competitors offering AI music production tools. For ProducerAI users, the shift to Lyria 3 infrastructure may improve generation quality, though it also places the platform squarely within Google's ecosystem, affecting data handling and feature roadmap decisions.
