Gemini in Chrome Gets First International Expansion to Canada, India, New Zealand

Google has expanded Gemini in Chrome beyond the US to Canada, India, and New Zealand, marking the AI assistant's first major international rollout following its US launch last year and January update.

The expansion adds support for over 50 languages, including Afrikaans, Amharic, Bengali, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin (Simplified and Traditional), Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese—covering major markets across Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

Platform and Accessibility

Gemini in Chrome is now available on iOS browsers alongside existing support for Chromebook Plus, Mac, and Windows. Users can launch the assistant from the top-right corner of Chrome, via keyboard shortcuts, the Mac menu bar, or Windows system tray. It operates as either a floating window or a side panel docked to the current tab.

Capabilities and Integrations

The assistant can access context from up to 10 open tabs and integrates with Google's ecosystem including Calendar, Docs, Drive, Maps, Search, YouTube, and Gmail. A key feature allows users to compose and send emails directly from the side panel without switching tabs.

The update includes Nano Banana 2, which enables image editing within Chrome without requiring file uploads or opening new applications.
