Google ends Pro model access for Gemini AI Plus on November 13, leaving the $4.99 tier with Flash only
Starting November 13, 2026, Google AI Plus subscribers ($4.99/month) can no longer select Pro models in the Gemini app or AI Mode in Search. The tier keeps only Gemini Flash and Flash-Lite, while Gemini 4 Argon goes to AI Pro ($19.99/month) and AI Ultra.
Google will remove access to Pro models from its $4.99/month Google AI Plus plan on November 13, 2026, according to an email now reaching subscribers. After that date, Pro model selection in both the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search will be limited to Google AI Pro subscribers and above.
What the email says
A Reddit user first posted the notice, and 9to5Google reports that a couple of other subscribers received the same message. The email, signed by the Google One team, states that from November 13, 2026, "the ability to select Pro models in both the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search will only be available to Google AI Pro subscribers and above."
AI Plus members keep access to the latest Flash-Lite and Flash models, which Google describes as "built for speed and intelligence." Earlier chats that used a Pro model can be continued, but with a different model. The email points to a Google Help Center article for further details.
Plan structure after the change
| Plan | Price | Model access |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Flash-Lite |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99/month | Flash-Lite, Flash |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99/month | Pro models, including Gemini 4 Argon |
| Google AI Ultra | Pricing not covered in source | Pro models, including Gemini 4 Argon |
Google announced the subscription change earlier in October, just before Gemini 4 Argon went live as the top-performance option in Gemini. At that time, Google said Argon would be included for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers and that AI Plus would lose Pro access entirely. The email supplies the effective date.
The source does not disclose Argon's context window, per-token API pricing, parameter count or benchmark scores. Those figures are not yet confirmed here.
Context
Google AI Plus bundles Gemini access with other Google One benefits, such as cloud storage. 9to5Google notes that the $4.99 plan had been a low-cost way to reach more capable models for work beyond casual chat. After November 13, the entry paid tier differs from the free plan by its Flash access and bundled perks, not by Pro access.
What this means
The change creates a $15 monthly gap between the two paid tiers, with no mid-priced option for Pro access. Users who relied on AI Plus for Pro-level reasoning or coding help face a 4x price increase to keep it, or a downgrade to Flash.
The move also fits a pattern of AI providers reserving their strongest models for higher-priced tiers as new flagships arrive. With Argon now the top Gemini model, Google is using Pro access as the main reason to move up to AI Pro.
The practical difference between Flash and Pro for a given task, and how Flash performs against Argon, will determine how many AI Plus subscribers upgrade, stay or cancel. Google has not published retention or subscriber figures for the tier.
The email notes that users can manage or cancel at any time. Subscribers who depend on Pro models have until November 13 to decide.
