Cline Desktop v0.0.49 adds changed-files pane, project file tree and integrated terminal
Cline Desktop v0.0.49, published 26 October, adds a Changes pane with per-file diffs, a project file tree and an integrated terminal. It also adds a Local Models settings page for Ollama and LM Studio, and refreshes the model catalog with ClinePass now defaulting to Kimi K3.1 Pro.
Cline Desktop v0.0.49 adds a Changes pane that shows the files edited in a session, with a diff for each. The release was published on GitHub on 26 October by github-actions. It also brings a project file tree, an integrated terminal and a Local Models settings page, and refreshes the model catalog.
New interface features
- Changes button: A new button in the session header shows the session's line counts and opens a pane listing the files changed in the last turn or across the whole session, with a diff of each. When a turn finishes, a summary beneath it lists the files it changed, and clicking it opens the pane on that turn.
- Project files panel: A folder button in the session header opens a file tree beside the conversation. It includes a read-only tabbed viewer, git status letters, and a marker on files the session changed. Files the agent edited get a File/Diff toggle. It works on local and SSH environments.
- Integrated terminal: A terminal panel opens at the bottom of the window, toggled with Ctrl+backtick.
- Pull request status: PR status moves from the bar above the composer into a header button. Its menu shows the PR title, merge status and checks (failing checks first). It lets users open the PR on GitHub, create a PR, copy the branch name, or refresh.
- Local Models page: A new settings page manages Ollama and LM Studio models, with setup guidance, model details and storage. A composer chip shows how much memory the loaded model uses.
- Keybindings and composer: Keybindings are configurable in Settings. Quit can require holding the shortcut, 1 second by default on macOS. Slash commands and @file mentions now appear as chips in the composer and in sent messages.
Reliability fixes
- If the Hub fails to start, the app shows a startup screen with Retry and Export diagnostics instead of failing every action with "desktop backend endpoint not ready." General settings now shows Hub status and a Restart Hub button.
- Opening a task already running in another Cline app attaches to that run rather than starting a second one that could not be stopped. Requests waiting on an app that closed mid-task now fail with a clear message instead of hanging.
- Sessions with transcripts over about 8 MB can be resumed again. Previously the transcript was sent to the Hub twice, exceeding its message size limit.
- Checking for changes no longer spawns thousands of git processes in workspaces with many untracked files.
- SSH environments behind a ProxyJump alias now connect.
- On Linux desktops without a tray (stock GNOME on Fedora or Debian), closing the window now quits the app.
Model and provider handling
- A turn whose connection drops after the model has streamed only reasoning is now retried. Model requests retry at most 3 times instead of 5.
- Kimi K3 now receives max reasoning for Extra High and Max, instead of an xhigh setting it rejects.
- Gemini API keys (the gemini provider) no longer send native Google Search. According to the release notes, free-tier keys failed every turn with a 429 quota error on Gemini 3+, and on Gemini 2.x every Cline tool was dropped.
- Auto-compaction no longer runs for models with an unknown context limit, and no longer reruns every few tool calls after the first compaction.
- New Cloud chats start on the user's local Cline or ClinePass model. If Cloud does not offer that model, ClinePass subscribers get a ClinePass model and everyone else gets Claude Sonnet 5.5.
- A pasted Cline API key now replaces an old browser sign-in instead of being ignored.
Catalog refresh
The model catalog adds the Liquid Inference and Munito AI providers and drops CrofAI, iFlow and Llama. The Cline free list adds Reflection Beam, Nemotron 3.5 Lightning and Laguna S 2.1, and drops Mimo V2.6 Flash and Muse Spark 1.3 Contributor. ClinePass now defaults to Kimi K3.1 Pro and adds MiniMax M3.1 Flash and DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017. Default models change for 56 other providers, mostly to Kimi K3.1 Pro, MiniMax M3.1 Flash or DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017.
What this means
The release moves review and verification into the Cline desktop window. Per-turn and per-session diffs, a file tree with git status, a PR status menu and a terminal mean users can inspect agent edits without switching to a separate editor. The Local Models page, with its memory chip, makes local Ollama and LM Studio models easier to manage inside the same app. Most of the fixes address failure modes that stopped work outright: duplicate task runs, oversized transcripts, Hub startup errors and Gemini free-tier 429 errors. The catalog changes shift the defaults for ClinePass and for 56 other providers, so users relying on default model selection may find a different model after updating.
