Apple is adding an AI assistant, built on AI models from Apple and OpenAI, to Keynote, Pages and Numbers, and the three apps now support the Model Context Protocol (MCP) on macOS 27 or later. The assistant is rolling out in beta, according to The Verge.

What the assistant does

Apple says the assistant can understand a document's context. Per The Verge, it handles different tasks in each app:

  • Keynote: designing, animating and refining slides.
  • Pages: drafting, restructuring and tweaking written content.
  • Numbers: calculating, visualizing and organizing data, suggesting chart types and building custom tables.

Availability

The beta is rolling out to devices compatible with Apple Intelligence. It works on devices running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 or later.

MCP support

Keynote, Pages and Numbers now support the Model Context Protocol on macOS 27 or later. This lets third-party AI agents plug into the apps.

Other creative app updates

  • Logic Pro (Mac and iPad): Gets a Liquid Glass redesign and an AI assistant that Apple says can "set up a vocal track from a single prompt" and edit existing projects. A redesigned Browser on Mac uses on-device AI to analyze, classify and tag added sounds.
  • Pixelmator Pro: Adds Generate Fill, which edits part of an image from a description of the changes. Apple says the tool "automatically matches the lighting, perspective, and texture of the surrounding environment so edits blend in."
  • Final Cut Pro: Brings templates, graphics, titles and transitions into the app through MotionVFX. Apple is also building a Content Hub into the app, with a library of stock videos, photos and backgrounds.

The updates to Apple's Creator's Studio will be available to existing subscribers for free in November.

What this means

The assistant is built on models from both Apple and OpenAI, so the Keynote, Pages and Numbers features draw on two model sources. MCP support in the three apps gives third-party AI agents a defined way to connect to them on macOS 27 or later. The assistant is in beta and limited to Apple Intelligence-compatible devices running version 27 operating systems. Context window sizes, per-token pricing, benchmark scores and the specific models behind each feature are not yet disclosed. The only pricing stated is that the Creator's Studio updates are free for existing subscribers in November.
