Apple released the iOS 27 public beta, making its AI-powered Siri overhaul available to all users for the first time beyond developers. The assistant leverages Apple Foundation Models built in collaboration with Google Gemini, running on-device with Private Cloud Compute across Apple's 2.5 billion active devices.

Apple's iOS 27 beta introduces a standalone Siri app with a chatbot interface that allows users to switch between Siri and ChatGPT by long-pressing the input field. Conversation context does not transfer when switching providers, and the app defaults back to Siri when reopened.

Apple's senior vice president Craig Federighi disclosed that iOS 27's Siri AI uses a family of third-generation Apple Foundation Models trained with outputs from Google's Gemini frontier models. The most capable model, AFM Cloud Pro, runs on Nvidia GPUs in Google's cloud infrastructure while maintaining Apple's Private Cloud Compute privacy architecture.
