Meta AI Comes to Threads Direct Messages, Ending Public-Feed-Only Chatbot Interactions

Meta AI is now available inside Threads direct messages, according to 9to5Mac. Starting today, users can send the assistant a Threads post, image, link, or video within a private DM thread and ask follow-up questions—without the exchange appearing in the public feed.

What's changing

Previously, Meta AI interactions on Threads were tied to public posts, meaning any back-and-forth with the chatbot was visible to other users. The new DM integration lets users privately ask Meta AI to summarize a shared link, explain a trending topic, or provide context on an image or video, then continue the conversation with follow-up questions—all without leaving the app or exposing the exchange publicly.

Building on Threads' messaging expansion
