Perplexity has expanded its agentic Personal Computer tool to Windows, according to the company, allowing PCs running Microsoft's operating system to function as a locally operated AI agent. The launch follows the Mac version Perplexity released in April and builds on Microsoft 365 and Teams integrations added in May.

Personal Computer operates as what Perplexity calls a "general-purpose digital worker" — an agent that can access local files and applications to perform tasks such as creating documents and updating spreadsheets on a user's behalf. The Windows version extends this capability into an environment Perplexity says accounts for the bulk of enterprise work.

"Now Microsoft users can ask Computer to work across their local files, Microsoft Office 365, and the web in one place," Perplexity said in its announcement. "It's built for the often messy way enterprise work gets done on local machines."

Availability and pricing

Personal Computer for Windows is rolling out today to paying Max and Enterprise Max subscribers, on plans that start at $200 per month. Perplexity has not disclosed a lower-tier or standalone price for the feature, and pricing for the Mac version released in April was not specified in this announcement.

Data handling and safety controls

According to Perplexity, the tool does not train on company data submitted through Personal Computer. The company also says the agent will notify users before executing sensitive actions, including sending emails or deleting files — a guardrail aimed at enterprise IT teams wary of granting AI agents unsupervised access to local systems.

No independent benchmarks, error rates, or third-party security audits have been published alongside this release. Claims about data privacy and notification behavior rely entirely on Perplexity's own statements; there is no public documentation yet describing how the notification system handles edge cases, such as batch operations or scheduled tasks.

What this means

Personal Computer for Windows is a distribution play as much as a product launch. Windows still dominates enterprise desktop environments, and by porting its agent from Mac to Windows, Perplexity is targeting the much larger pool of corporate IT departments and knowledge workers who never left Microsoft's ecosystem in the first place.

The move also puts Perplexity in more direct competition with Microsoft itself, which has been building its own Copilot agents directly into Windows and Office. Perplexity's bet is that a third-party agent operating across local files, Office 365, and the open web can offer something Microsoft's first-party tools don't — though the company has not published benchmarks comparing task completion rates or accuracy against Copilot or other agentic competitors.

The $200-per-month price floor keeps this squarely in enterprise territory rather than consumer reach, and the lack of independent verification around its data-handling and notification claims means adopters are largely taking Perplexity's word on how the agent behaves with sensitive local data. Until third-party audits or detailed technical documentation appear, IT departments evaluating Personal Computer for Windows will be operating on trust rather than verified specifications.
