Perplexity's Mac-Native 'Personal Computer' Platform Claims $2.8B in Labor-Equivalent Work
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas revealed that the company's Mac-native Personal Computer platform has performed more than $2.8B in labor-equivalent work for Pro, Max, and Enterprise subscribers since launch. The announcement came during Perplexity's invite-only Ask NYC event, one day after Apple CFO Kevan Parekh cited the platform during Apple's Q2 2026 earnings call.
Apple CFO highlights Perplexity during earnings call
During Apple's Q2 2026 earnings call, Parekh mentioned Perplexity as an example of developers choosing Mac as their platform for "enterprise-grade AI assistants." He stated: "With Apple silicon and this powerful unified memory architecture, leading AI developers, like Perplexity, are choosing Mac as their preferred platform to build enterprise-grade AI assistants that power autonomous agents and boost workplace productivity."
The comment came amid reports that Mac mini and Mac Studio units are sold out in several countries worldwide, with Apple confirming availability will remain constrained for several months.
Platform architecture and deployment
Personal Computer is designed to run primarily on Mac mini, though it functions on any Mac. According to Perplexity, the platform brings "multi-model orchestration to your own machine, working across local files, apps, and the web in one system." On a Mac mini, it runs 24/7, allowing users to initiate work from their phone and return to completed tasks.
Srinivas emphasized that Personal Computer was built "to run on any Mac, with a Mac mini as one of the best ways to deploy it at full capacity."
New enterprise features announced
At the Ask NYC event, Perplexity announced several enterprise-focused updates:
- Microsoft Teams support
- Native Excel integration (now in beta)
- New workflows feature for repeatable tasks
- Deeper data connectors with Snowflake and Databricks
- Partnership with 1Password allowing Personal Computer to act inside authenticated tools without exposing user credentials to the model
What this means
Perplexity's $2.8B labor-equivalent work claim, while unverified, positions the company as a serious enterprise AI player beyond its search product. The Apple CFO's public endorsement is notable, suggesting genuine enterprise adoption of Mac-based AI agent deployments. The Mac mini supply constraints indicate real demand for local AI deployment hardware, contrasting with the purely cloud-based agent approaches from competitors. However, Perplexity has not disclosed specific metrics on how labor-equivalent work is calculated or how many enterprise customers are actually using the platform.
