Meta Adds Video Chat, Email Addresses, and Computer Use to Muse AI Agent

Meta announced a set of updates to its Muse AI agent at Connect 2026, adding live video calling, dedicated email addresses, and computer-use capability on Mac, according to the company.

The most notable addition is video chat. Muse launched earlier this month primarily as a text-based chat interface, but Meta says users will soon be able to hold live video conversations with a Muse avatar. A new Muse Realtime Avatar model will drive the avatar's movements during these calls. Users can already customize how their Muse avatar looks, and Meta says it will now let people adjust how the avatar sounds as well.

Meta is also giving Muse agents their own email addresses. According to the company, users will be able to message their Muse agent directly through these addresses to assign tasks, and the agent can use email as a channel for completing work on a user's behalf.

Separately, the Muse Mac app — which launched recently — is getting the ability to control a user's computer, expanding the agent's actions beyond conversation into direct task execution on the desktop.

Meta says it also plans to bring Muse to its smart glasses in the coming months. That integration would let wearers ask Muse about what they're currently looking at, extending the agent's reach from screens to real-world, camera-fed context.

Fast follow-up to a strong launch

Muse launched earlier this month and, according to Meta, has topped App Store charts and was downloaded more than ChatGPT on mobile during its first 12 days. No independent verification of those download figures has been published. The rapid rollout of video calling, email access, and computer use just weeks after launch suggests Meta is moving quickly to capitalize on early momentum before user attention shifts elsewhere.

No pricing details, technical specifications for the Realtime Avatar model, or a firm release date for the video chat feature have been disclosed. Meta did not provide parameter counts, latency benchmarks, or context window information for Muse or its underlying models.

What this means

Meta is treating Muse less like a chatbot and more like a persistent agent with its own identity — an email address, a voice, a face, and soon a camera-based view of the physical world through smart glasses. That trajectory mirrors where OpenAI, Google, and others are pushing their assistants: past text boxes and into always-available, multimodal companions embedded across devices.

The speed of these additions — arriving roughly two weeks after Muse's initial launch — indicates Meta sees a narrow window to convert early download numbers into sustained engagement before competing agents catch up on voice and video interaction. Giving Muse computer-use access on Mac also signals Meta's ambitions extend beyond conversation into task automation, an area where Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google have all been racing to ship agentic features. Whether Muse's avatar-based video chat differentiates it from rivals' voice modes, or simply repackages the same capability with a face attached, will depend on execution details Meta has not yet disclosed.
