Google launches information agents that monitor topics 24/7, rolling out to AI Pro subscribers this summer
Google announced information agents at its 2025 I/O keynote, a new feature in Search that allows users to create AI systems that continuously monitor topics of interest and send push notifications when relevant information appears.
The agents operate 24/7 in the background, synthesizing information from multiple sources rather than delivering a list of links. According to Google, they can explain context, compare perspectives, and provide actionable insights without requiring users to repeatedly search for the same information.
How it works
Users open AI Mode in Search and enter a prompt, such as "keep me updated on nearby movie tickets for 'The Mandalorian and Grogu'." When relevant information appears, the Google app sends a push notification. Active tracked topics appear in AI Mode history, where users can manage, refine, or disable alerts.
Google describes the feature as an evolution of Google Alerts, which launched in 2003, but designed to go beyond simple notifications.
Use cases
According to Google, the agents can:
- Monitor stock market activity for specific companies or economic trends
- Track flight prices for upcoming trips
- Follow breaking news on specific topics
- Monitor housing or job market trends
- Track sports teams and live events
- Provide weather and traffic updates
For stock market monitoring, an agent could track breaking news throughout the day, summarize earnings reports, and alert users when major price changes occur.
Availability and rollout
Information agents will be available this summer, first rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S. Google plans to expand to additional markets later, but did not specify a timeline.
Broader Search redesign
The announcement is part of a larger overhaul of Google Search, including what Google describes as a reimagined "intelligent search box" — the company's biggest change to Search in more than 25 years. The new interface supports longer, more conversational queries and includes an AI-powered query suggestion system that goes beyond traditional autocomplete.
What this means
Google is shifting from reactive search to proactive monitoring, competing directly with emerging AI assistant products from OpenAI, Anthropic, and others. By limiting initial access to paid subscribers, Google is testing the feature with a smaller user base while generating revenue from its AI infrastructure investment. The success of information agents will depend on whether users find continuous monitoring more valuable than on-demand search — and whether the notifications become useful or overwhelming.

AWS adds metadata filtering to AgentCore Memory, improving agent retrieval accuracy from 40% to 64%
Amazon has added metadata filtering to its AgentCore Memory service for AI agents. In AWS evaluations across 151 questions, the feature improved overall question-answering accuracy from 40% to 64%, with context-dependent questions jumping from 16% to 69% accuracy. The update allows agents to filter memory retrieval by attributes like priority, department, or time range before semantic search runs.
