OpenAI Gives ChatGPT Voice Access to Email, Calendar, and Slack, Powered by New GPT-6 Models

OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT Voice with direct access to email, calendar, and Slack plugins, letting users complete real tasks through spoken commands rather than typed prompts. The update is live globally in the latest ChatGPT app version.

According to OpenAI, the voice feature now runs on new underlying models the company calls GPT-6 Astra, Sol, and Luna. OpenAI has not disclosed technical specifications for these models, including parameter counts, context window sizes, or benchmark scores. Pricing for voice-based plugin usage has not been disclosed.

With the update, users can ask ChatGPT Voice to:

• Look up calendar events and schedule meetings
• Send and manage emails
• Review Slack messages and respond by voice
• Identify and cancel duplicate charges in connected finance apps
• Build a website with a checkout page, according to a demo video published by OpenAI

OpenAI also showed voice-driven weather lookups and online shopping scenarios in the same demo. The company says the feature now extends to "ChatGPT Work" on web and mobile, where users can create documents, presentations, and spreadsheets through spoken instructions instead of manual input.

The "Her" reference, again

Sam Altman has repeatedly pointed to the 2013 film "Her" as a reference point for where he wants ChatGPT Voice to go, a comparison he first made publicly in 2024 when the original voice mode launched. The film depicts an AI assistant that manages a user's daily life through natural conversation, and OpenAI is framing this update as a step toward that vision — an assistant that can act across a person's email, calendar, and work tools without the user needing to open separate apps.

OpenAI has not published independent benchmarks or third-party evaluations confirming reliability rates for voice-driven task execution, such as accuracy of duplicate-charge detection or error rates in sent emails and calendar edits. All capability claims in this rollout come from OpenAI's own demo material.

This is a plugin and feature expansion layered on top of ChatGPT Voice, not the introduction of a new standalone model product that developers can call directly — OpenAI has not released API documentation, pricing, or a model card for GPT-6 Astra, Sol, or Luna as independent products.
