OpenAI adds up to $500 per month in API credit to ChatGPT Pro and Business plans
OpenAI announced on October 28 (US time) that ChatGPT Pro and Business plans now include monthly API usage credit of up to $500. Free, Go, Plus, Enterprise and Edu plans are not eligible. Users must sign in to ChatGPT and the API with the same email address.
OpenAI is adding API usage credit of up to $500 per month to ChatGPT Pro and Business plans. The company announced the benefit on October 28 (US time), according to Japanese outlet ITmedia, whose report is in Japanese.
Who is eligible
Only two plan families qualify:
- ChatGPT Pro (priced at $100, $200 and $500 per month)
- ChatGPT Business
The Free, Go, Plus, Enterprise and Edu plans are excluded.
How much credit each plan gets
| Plan | Monthly API credit |
|---|---|
| Pro ($100, $200 or $500 per month) | Equal to the plan's monthly fee, renewed every month |
| Business, standard seat | $20 per seat |
| Business, premium seat | $100 per seat |
For Business, the total is capped at $500 per month per workspace.
How to claim it
The credit is not applied automatically. To receive it, a user must sign in to both their ChatGPT account and their OpenAI API account with the same email address, then complete the usage setup.
What this means
This is a change to plan benefits, not a new model or a pricing change to the API itself. ChatGPT subscribers on the qualifying plans can now run API workloads against a monthly credit tied to what they already pay. For Pro subscribers, the credit matches the subscription fee. For Business workspaces, the credit scales with seat type but stops at $500 per month regardless of seat count.
Teams should check two points before relying on the credit. First, the ChatGPT and API accounts must share an email address. Second, Plus, Enterprise and Edu subscribers do not receive the benefit.
