OpenAI announced physical-product engineering projects on November 3, 2026. They include an Astra-designed test device, expanded work with Chip Ganassi Racing and a new vehicle-design research collaboration with Mazda.

Google AI & Infrastructure announced on November 3, 2026 that it is releasing 29 public tasks, grading tools and an evaluation container for Physical-Engineering's Last Exam (PLE). The 85-task benchmark was developed with Mercor and comes with an open agent competition and leaderboard.

Mistral AI's engineering team documented their investigation of a memory leak in vLLM that caused 400MB/minute memory growth during disaggregated serving with Mistral Medium 3.1. The leak, which only appeared with specific conditions including graph compilation and NIXL-based KV cache transfer, was eventually traced to mmap allocations outside the traditional heap that standard profiling tools couldn't detect.

Mistral has acquired Emmi AI and launched physics AI models that predict structural, thermal, and fluid dynamics behavior in seconds on a single GPU, compared to hours-to-weeks for traditional solvers. The company is targeting aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, and energy sectors with partners including ASML, Airbus, Safran, and Siemens Energy.
