Anthropic is setting up a physical biology lab in the San Francisco area where Claude will guide robots through drug experiments with minimal human involvement. The move follows the company's $400 million acquisition of Coefficient Bio and the addition of Novartis CEO Vas Narasimhan to its board.

Anthropic published two experiments showing Claude models autonomously running open-source protein design software end-to-end, claiming hit rates of 26.8% against an industry baseline of 10-15%. Independent verification of the results is still pending.

SandboxAQ has partnered with Anthropic to integrate its physics-based large quantitative models (LQMs) into Claude, making quantum chemistry calculations and molecular dynamics simulations accessible through natural language. The integration eliminates the need for specialized computing infrastructure previously required to run the models.
