Google said on October 30, 2026, that its Project Suncatcher prototype satellite returned its first AI response from orbit. The response was a haiku generated by an onboard Gemma 4 open model running on a data-center-class TPU.

Google has confirmed it is training Gemini 4 in what it calls its 'most ambitious pre-training run yet,' with CEO Sundar Pichai saying the next-generation model will need a 'much larger base model' to compete at the frontier. No specs, benchmarks, or firm release date have been disclosed, though historical cadence points to a November or December 2026 launch.
