GitHub has released the source code for its Copilot for Eclipse plugin under the MIT license. The move makes Copilot's Eclipse integration the first open-source IDE plugin for the AI coding assistant, with code now publicly available on GitHub.

IBM has released Granite Speech 4.1 2B, a 2-billion-parameter speech-language model trained on 174,000 hours of audio for automatic speech recognition and translation across English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese. Alibaba Cloud has released Qwen3.6-35B-A3B, an open-weight sparse mixture-of-experts model with 35 billion total parameters but only 3 billion active parameters per token. The model features a 262K native context window (expandable to 1M tokens), multimodal input support, and integrated reasoning mode with preserved thinking traces.

Google released Gemma 4, an open-weights model family that runs directly on edge devices with multi-step planning and autonomous workflow capabilities. The Apache 2.0 licensed model bypasses traditional cloud security controls by executing entirely on local hardware, creating a governance blind spot for enterprise security teams.
