OpenAI is shutting down Atlas, its AI-powered browser launched in October 2024, and redistributing its agentic browsing capabilities to ChatGPT's desktop app and a new Chrome extension. The shutdown follows CEO of applications Fidji Simo's directive to cut "side quests," which previously led to the discontinuation of Sora video generation tool.

Anthropic has released an official Linux desktop app for Claude, bringing feature parity with macOS and Windows versions. However, the app currently fails to reliably connect to locally-installed AI models like Ollama, limiting Linux users to cloud-based Anthropic plans.

Google released a native Gemini application for macOS, marking the company's first standalone desktop client for its AI assistant. The app brings Gemini functionality directly to Mac users without requiring a web browser.
