Claude designs 318,484 protein binders against scorpion toxins; 17 of 211 lab-tested designs bind

Anthropic's Claude, working inside its Claude Science environment, largely autonomously designed protein binders against five neurotoxins from four scorpion species. Of 211 designs tested in the lab, 17 met the criteria for a binder, and two independent labs confirmed the results. Whether any of them work as an antivenom has not been tested.

Google's Antigravity agent flags 97-residue antimicrobial peptide candidate in UniProt; wet-lab validation underway

Google DeepMind researchers used the Antigravity agentic platform and the ProtNLM function-prediction model to flag a previously uncharacterized, 97-amino-acid bacteriocin candidate in UniProt. The lead is predicted to be active against respiratory tract pathogens but has not been experimentally confirmed. Google also introduced a Biomolecular Structure Viewer inside Antigravity.

DeepMind's Pushmeet Kohli and Biohub's Sal Candido Explain Why AlphaFold Didn't Solve Protein Folding

Latent Space has published a 31:55 episode with Pushmeet Kohli of Google DeepMind and Sal Candido of Biohub, titled "Why AlphaFold Didn't Solve Protein Folding." The source page lists only the title, guests and runtime, so the specific arguments made in the conversation are not yet verified here.

Anthropic's Claude Science builds first complete all-sky ultraviolet map, filling gaps with AI inpainting

Anthropic says its Claude Science system produced the first complete ultraviolet map of the sky. AI agents downloaded, calibrated and merged data from multiple space missions, then used inpainting to fill gaps. In tests, the filled-in predictions deviated about 10% from actual measurements on average.

Anthropic's Claimed 'First AI Discovery' Sparks Backlash From Biologists Over What Counts as Science

Anthropic announced that a 950-agent Claude system in its molecular biology lab flagged a gene-repeat pattern near a known enzyme after 21 hours, calling it reminiscent of the discovery path that led to CRISPR. Biologists, including one who says his team found the same pattern earlier, dispute that this constitutes a genuine scientific discovery.

Google DeepMind Releases AlphaGenome Atlas, Predictions for All 9 Billion Possible Human DNA Mutations

Google DeepMind has released AlphaGenome Atlas, a free research platform containing precomputed predictions for the effects of all 9 billion possible single-letter DNA variants in the human genome. The 1-petabyte dataset includes a new AlphaGenome Variant Impact (AVI) score that combines AlphaGenome and AlphaMissense predictions to help researchers rank genetic variants by likely impact.
