OpenAI shuts down Atlas browser, moves AI browsing features to ChatGPT desktop and Chrome extension
OpenAI is shutting down Atlas, its AI-powered browser launched in October 2024, and redistributing its agentic browsing capabilities to ChatGPT's desktop app and a new Chrome extension. The shutdown follows CEO of applications Fidji Simo's directive to cut "side quests," which previously led to the discontinuation of Sora video generation tool.
