Alibaba's Qoder adds desktop interconnect to run coding tasks on another machine without SSH
Alibaba's Qoder has added desktop interconnect, which lets one Qoder desktop client send tasks to Qoder on another computer using a device address and pairing code. No SSH or remote desktop setup is required. IT Home reported the update on October 30.
Alibaba's Qoder now lets users connect their everyday desktop client to Qoder running on a different computer, with no SSH required. The feature is called desktop interconnect, and IT Home reported it on October 30, as covered by Pandaily.
From one machine, users can start tasks on the other, follow progress, add requirements and preview results. Qoder already let users control a desktop machine remotely from its mobile app.
The problem it targets
The feature addresses a common developer setup. Long-running jobs such as project refactoring often go to a dedicated, more powerful machine, while a lightweight laptop handles daily work. Builds, tests and validation that need a specific operating system or more performance may also run on separate devices.
Until now, that usually meant SSH, which requires configuration, or remote desktop, which forces users to switch screens and find the right Qoder session.
How it works
Two devices are paired directly, with no SSH or other remote connection to set up. Once connected, users stay in their usual client to launch remote tasks, check progress and add instructions. Files the remote agent produces, such as PowerPoint decks or Excel sheets, can be previewed on the local computer.
Qoder says reducing the overhead of connecting and switching lets users focus on task goals, outcomes and key decisions.
Security controls
- A connection requires both the device address and a pairing code.
- Both ends must be signed in to the same account and complete pairing.
- Pairing codes only work within their validity period.
- Users choose which workspaces to open and set sync permissions for existing sessions, which controls what a paired device can reach.
- Connections can be dropped at any time, and device authorizations can be removed when no longer needed.
The validity period of the pairing codes was not specified.
Qoder's product range
The Qoder family now includes a desktop app, an AI-native IDE, a command-line tool, a JetBrains plugin, the digital employee product QoderWake and cloud-based Cloud Agents. Alibaba says Qoder serves more than 8 million users and more than 100,000 enterprise customers worldwide. These figures are company claims.
The update continues a run of releases aimed at making Qoder work across more devices and operating systems.
What this means
Desktop interconnect moves remote task handling into the Qoder client itself. Developers who split work between a laptop and a more powerful or OS-specific machine no longer need to configure SSH or switch into a remote desktop session to reach a Qoder session on the other device.
The security design ties access to a single signed-in account, a time-limited pairing code and per-workspace permissions. That scoping matters for anyone letting one machine drive an agent on another. Previewing agent-produced files such as PowerPoint and Excel locally also suggests the remote agent is meant for more than code. Pricing and availability details for the feature were not disclosed.
