Meta releases Muse Image generator, powers Instagram Stories and WhatsApp chat features
Meta has released Muse Image, its first image generation model from Meta Superintelligence Labs. The model is now available in the Meta AI app and already powers creative features across Instagram and WhatsApp.
Muse Image capabilities
According to Meta, Muse Image uses Muse Spark AI reasoning to interpret text prompts, search the web for context, and plan the image creation process before generating results. The system can work with user-uploaded photos, tagged friend profiles, and trending information from Meta's platforms including Facebook.
The model generates images from descriptive text prompts and allows users to download and share results directly to feeds, stories, or chats across Meta's apps.
Platform integration
Muse Image currently powers:
- Over 30 AI-powered effects for Instagram Stories
- Image generation in WhatsApp direct chats with Meta AI
- Creative tools in the Meta AI app
Meta states these features are "starting in limited countries with more locations on the way." The company plans to expand Muse Image to Facebook, Messenger, and additional surfaces on Instagram and WhatsApp in the coming weeks.
Business applications
Meta announced that advertisers and agencies will be able to access Muse Image through Advantage+ creative in the coming weeks. Pricing for business use was not disclosed.
Future development
Meta confirmed that Muse Video is already in development, indicating the company's next step after releasing Muse Spark (its reasoning model) and Muse Image.
The Meta AI app is available for free on iOS.
What this means
Meta is positioning its Superintelligence Labs products as integrated tools across its social media ecosystem rather than standalone AI services. By embedding Muse Image directly into Instagram Stories and WhatsApp—platforms with billions of users—Meta gains distribution advantage over competitors who rely primarily on dedicated apps or API access. The forthcoming Muse Video suggests Meta is building a full multimodal stack to compete with OpenAI's GPT-4o and Google's Gemini in consumer-facing applications.
