Huawei's Xiaoyi Work is first to run openPangu-2.1-Pro, labeled for HarmonyOS task enhancement
Huawei's Xiaoyi Work AI work agent is the first product to offer openPangu-2.1-Pro, a new version of the open Pangu model family, according to IT Home's hands-on testing on November 5. Huawei has not published parameter count, context length or a release date.
Huawei's AI work agent Xiaoyi Work has become the first product to offer openPangu-2.1-Pro, a new version of the company's open Pangu model family, IT Home found in hands-on testing reported on November 5. Inside the app, the model is labeled as offering HarmonyOS task enhancement.
What is and is not known
Huawei has not published details of openPangu-2.1-Pro. No public information is available on its parameter count, active parameters, context length or training data, and the model has not been formally released. IT Home concluded that it is a very new model currently available only inside Xiaoyi Work.
For reference, the openPangu-2.0-Pro model it succeeds was opened earlier this year with 505 billion total parameters, 180 billion sparsely activated parameters and a 512K context window, trained entirely on Ascend NPUs.
Timing relative to openPangu-2.0
The appearance comes days after Huawei Cloud said on November 1 that its MaaS model-as-a-service platform will stop selling openPangu-2.0-Flash and openPangu-2.0-Pro on November 6 and take both offline at midnight on November 30. Huawei said at the time that new openPangu models were being planned and would be rolled out over time.
Huawei has not said when openPangu-2.1-Pro will be formally released or whether it will be offered on Huawei Cloud MaaS.
The product: Xiaoyi Work
Xiaoyi Work is positioned as an AI assistant for office work, coding and creative tasks across HarmonyOS phones, tablets and PCs, with a Windows client as well. Users give it a goal, and it breaks the task into steps, calls tools and carries out the work. Progress is visible, and key checkpoints are left to the user for review.
Tasks can run in a cloud PC or on a local computer, and a phone can pick up and monitor a task running on a connected PC. According to an InfoQ China review, the product was built jointly by Huawei's Xiaoyi device team and the openJiuwen open-source agent community.
Supported scenarios include market research, document processing, slide creation, data analysis, content creation and code development.
Pricing and availability
The service remains in beta and is paid:
- Free trial: new users get 1,000 AI points free for 31 days.
- Entry plan: 49 yuan per month on a recurring basis.
- Standard plan: 199 yuan per month.
Per-token pricing for openPangu-2.1-Pro has not been disclosed, and no API access has been announced.
What this means
The first openPangu-2.1 model has surfaced inside an agent product rather than on a cloud model marketplace, and its stated focus is agent tasks on HarmonyOS devices. That makes Xiaoyi Work the only place to try the model for now, and the only evidence of its capabilities is the in-app label and IT Home's testing.
For developers, the gap matters. openPangu-2.0-Flash and openPangu-2.0-Pro leave Huawei Cloud MaaS on November 30, and Huawei has not said whether openPangu-2.1-Pro will be offered there. Until Huawei publishes specifications and a release plan, claims about the model's size, context length or benchmark standing cannot be verified.
