Google adds Business Profile integration to Gemini app with automated review responses, performance analysis
Google is integrating Google Business Profile data into the Gemini app, allowing business owners to analyze performance metrics, respond to reviews, and update their listings through conversational AI prompts.
Core features
The integration gives Gemini access to business review data, customer questions, search impressions, direction requests, call data, and customer engagement metrics. Business owners can query performance with natural language prompts like "how did my business do this month?" to receive analytics from their actual Business Profile data.
For review management, Gemini can draft responses that reference specific customer feedback and match the business's brand voice. The app can also update operating hours, post seasonal updates, and identify missing profile information through conversational commands.
Business notebooks
Google is introducing Business notebooks as a separate organizational feature within Gemini. These notebooks aggregate information from Google Business Profile and business websites into a single knowledge base.
According to Google, the notebooks provide:
- Proactive alerts for unanswered customer questions and missing information like holiday hours
- Recommendations for market opportunities and operational optimization including pricing and positioning based on local market data
- Campaign development tools that generate promotional concepts and analyze performance metrics
The notebooks function as a grounding mechanism, allowing Gemini to generate content and analysis specific to the business's context rather than generic responses.
Availability
Both Google Business Profile integration and Business notebooks will begin rolling out globally to the Gemini app this month, according to Google's announcement. The company did not specify which Gemini tier (free, Advanced, or Business) will receive these features or whether they require a paid subscription.
What this means
This marks Google's first significant push to position Gemini as a business management tool rather than a general-purpose chatbot. By directly integrating Business Profile data—which already exists within Google's ecosystem—the company is creating a moat against competitors like ChatGPT that lack access to this business intelligence. The success will depend on whether the automated review responses and analytics provide genuine value or simply repackage existing Business Profile dashboard features with a conversational interface.
