Google announced on October 29, 2026 that Gemini app users can now generate, preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code and other files directly within a chat, according to a post on the company's Gemini App blog, as reported by Unite.AI.
What changed
The update extends the file-generation capability Google first introduced in April of this year. It adds three things to the workflow:
- In-place editing of generated files inside the chat
- Full-screen preview of files
- Text highlighting
Supported file types named in the announcement are documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets and code, along with other files.
Google says the capabilities are available to all users.
Model and pricing details
This is a feature update to the Gemini app. No new model, context window, benchmark scores or pricing accompany the announcement.
What this means
The April capability let Gemini produce files from a chat. With editing, preview and highlighting now in the same interface, a generated file can be reviewed and revised in the conversation where it was created. Google describes the change as covering the full range of file types the app can generate, from documents and PDFs to spreadsheets and code.
