Anthropic has made three tracking features generally available for Claude Enterprise plans: smart reports, pooled budgets and in-app surveys. All three were released in beta in September, ZDNET reports.
The features target a recurring enterprise question: whether AI spend is justified by productivity gains. ZDNET says many businesses still want better insight into that, even as some measures show companies starting to see returns on AI adoption.
What each feature does
Smart reports track which tasks employees use Claude for, how often they run them, and what they cost. According to ZDNET, the reports also document "where sessions run into friction" and flag tasks people run consistently, which can be turned into routine workflows. They are off by default.
Anthropic's documentation states that smart reports "aren't designed and should not be used for evaluating individual performance or making employment decisions."
Pooled budgets set a monthly spend cap for a group within an organization, in addition to each seat's individual monthly limit. Admins can set individual and group limits based on previous monthly spend data. The feature is meant to keep one highly active user from being held back by a budget limit while other users leave spend unused. Users can belong to multiple pooled budgets, which can be ordered by priority.
In-app surveys let admins create surveys that appear in Chat and ask employees about their Claude usage. Aggregate responses appear in the Admin console.
Pricing context
ZDNET reports that Claude Enterprise is billed at $20 per seat per month, in addition to API token rates. Claude Teams also costs $20 per seat, but is capped at 150 users and includes tokens, so usage is not billed separately.
Business backdrop
ZDNET describes Anthropic as the market leader for enterprise AI, with OpenAI having caught up in recent months as both companies target IPOs. It cites new data from Ramp showing Anthropic spend peaked in July and has been slightly lower in October so far.
Anthropic filed its IPO on Monday, per ZDNET. The prospectus states: "If the market for our models, platform, and applications develops more slowly than we expect or declines, our growth may slow or stall, and our business, financial condition, and results of operations could be adversely affected."
No new model, context window or token pricing change accompanies the announcement.
What this means
The release adds cost and usage visibility on top of Claude Enterprise's existing per-seat and token billing. Because Enterprise bills tokens separately from the $20 seat fee, spend can vary by user, and pooled budgets give admins a way to cap group spend while keeping individual limits in place.
Smart reports show which tasks are run often and where sessions hit friction, which gives admins a basis for judging whether usage is productive. Anthropic's own disclaimer limits their intended use: they are not meant for individual performance evaluation or employment decisions.
ZDNET's view is that the general availability may surface insights that encourage larger customers, described as getting antsy, to stay on. That reading is the publication's analysis, not an Anthropic statement. The Ramp data and the prospectus language on market growth explain why retention and customer growth matter to Anthropic at this point.
