Anthropic Launches Claude Docs and Slides, Merges Chat and Cowork Into 'One Claude'

Anthropic is adding Docs and Slides to Claude, letting users create, edit, and share documents and presentations directly from chat conversations. The features launch today in beta, according to Anthropic, alongside a broader restructuring that merges regular Claude chats and Cowork into a single interface called "one Claude."

What's changing

Claude Docs and Slides join Claude Design as part of Anthropic's productivity toolset. Users can prompt Claude to generate a document or presentation from any chat, then ask Claude to revise it or edit it manually. Claude Docs function similarly to Google Docs: they start as private files, can be shared with collaborators for simultaneous editing, and support comments from both human users and Claude itself.

Anthropic says anything created with Claude Design, Slides, or Docs lives at a single shareable link accessible from any device, including phones.

The company is also collapsing the distinction between standard Claude chats and Cowork, its dedicated workspace mode. Under the "one Claude" model, Anthropic says Claude can now determine what a given task requires and surface the appropriate tools — including Artifacts and Design capabilities — from any conversation, using whatever context, skills, and connectors the user already has set up.

Rollout details

The one Claude update begins rolling out today to Pro and Max subscribers on web, desktop, and mobile "over the next few weeks." Team and Free tier users will get access later, though Anthropic has not specified a timeline. Anthropic states there is "nothing to turn on" — the update applies automatically, and users can continue using Claude chat as before if they prefer.

No pricing changes were announced alongside the update. Anthropic has not disclosed specific technical details such as file size limits, supported export formats beyond general editing and sharing, or which underlying Claude model versions power the new Docs and Slides generation.

What this means

This is a packaging and interface change, not a new model release — no new Claude weights are involved. The move directly targets Google, which has spent much of 2026 embedding Gemini deeper into Docs, Sheets, and Slides through in-app chat windows and full-document generation. Google's structural advantage has always been distribution: Workspace is already the default productivity suite for millions of businesses and schools, so Gemini doesn't need to pull users out of their existing workflow.

Anthropic's bet is different. Rather than integrating into Microsoft or Google's existing suites, it's trying to make Claude itself a destination for document and presentation work, reducing the number of times a user has to leave a Claude conversation to finish a task elsewhere. Whether that works depends less on model quality — where Anthropic is generally viewed as competitive with or ahead of Google — and more on whether shareable Claude links and in-chat editing can match the convenience of tools already wired into corporate email, calendars, and file storage. For now, this is a beta feature limited to paid tiers, with free-tier access still pending.
