Claude Gains Contract Analysis Tool for Small Business Users

Anthropic has released Claude for Small Business, a suite of 31 specialized skills for its Claude Cowork platform, with a contract review tool emerging as the package's most significant feature.

The /review-contract skill analyzes legal contracts and identifies potentially problematic clauses, completing full reviews in approximately five minutes. The feature requires a Claude Cowork subscription, available through Claude Pro at $20 per month minimum.

How Contract Review Works

Users access the tool within the Claude app by selecting Cowork, customizing settings, and typing /review-contract followed by uploading a contract file. The AI then analyzes the document and flags concerning provisions with specific explanations and suggested alternatives.

In testing reported by ZDNET, the tool successfully identified issues across multiple contract types, including:

• Hidden fees and ambiguous pricing in home improvement contracts
• Deliberately difficult cancellation procedures in fitness membership agreements
• Disadvantageous terms in caregiving service contracts

The analysis presents red-flagged items in a clear format that can be shared directly with contracting parties during negotiations.

Privacy and Permissions

Anthropic allows users to configure granular permissions when connecting third-party applications. Users can specify read-only or read-write access for each connected service, including QuickBooks, Mailchimp, HubSpot, and payment processors.

"Small businesses deserve the same access to AI that any Fortune 500 company gets," said Lina Ochman, Anthropic's head of US SMB and product-led growth GTM. "Small businesses make up nearly half the US economy and employ close to half the private-sector workforce."
