How It Works

Users access the feature through a "Finances" section in ChatGPT's sidebar or by prompting "@Finances, connect my accounts." ChatGPT guides users through Plaid's authentication process, then builds a visual dashboard showing their financial overview. Dashboard generation takes several minutes according to OpenAI's documentation.

ChatGPT can read balances, transactions, investments, and liabilities through Plaid. The system cannot view full account numbers or execute transactions. Users can disconnect accounts at any time and delete any financial memories ChatGPT stores. These memories remain inaccessible when using ChatGPT's temporary chats feature.

Data Privacy Controls

OpenAI applies existing data control settings to the finance feature. Users who have opted out of model training will have those preferences honored for financial prompts and information.
